A new renewable energy production complex with a total of 4GW solar energy and wind power will be built in the Saemangeum reclaimed land. The Saemangeum Development Administration and North Jeolla Province held a ceremony to proclaim the "Samangeum Renewable Energy Vision" at the offshore floating solar energy plant in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province on Oct. 30.
Song Ha-jin, governor of North Jeolla Province, announced his vision to establish Saemangeum as the world's best renewable energy cluster and spearhead the new and renewable energy industry.
To this end, the government and North Jeolla Province will create a 3GW-class solar energy complex within Saemangeum and a 1GW-class marine wind power complex in waters near Gunsan.
The Saemangeum Development Administration and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries will develop a total of 3.0 GW power facilities, including 2.8 GW solar energy, 0.1 GW wind power and 0.1 GW fuel cells in the area (38.29 ㎢).
The site of new renewable energy power generation facilities inside Saemangeum accounts for 9.36% of the entire Saemangeum area (409㎢). In addition, a large offshore wind power (1.0GW) complex will be built in the waters near Gunsan, outside Saemangeum.
The government has decided to push for the connection and approval of the transmission and transformation systems so that the new renewable energy complex can be established early.
The project will be completed in 2022, and will keep pace with the power generation project. About 10 trillion won will be injected into the construction of the Saemangeum new and renewable energy power generation complex, and about 2 million construction workers will be involved.
