POSCO E&C said on Nov. 26 that it has produced 60 construction workers in Yangon, Myanmar, through a construction technology training center that has been operated for three months since August.
POSCO E&C has been operating a program to train construction workers to support jobs for Myanmar's youth along with the "POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation."
POSCO E&C provides basic education such as rebar, woodwork, electricity, and plumbing, and provided all of the education costs free of charge. Finished students will be given an opportunity to work at the Yangon Water Supply Improvement Project site in Myanmar, which the builder won in August 2017.
Through the project, the company is pushing for smooth supply of water to Yangon City and the economic free zone in Thilawa. POSCO E&C competed with foreign construction companies such as CCECC in China, NCC in India, and CRI Pumps of India to win the contract.
A POSCO E&C official said, "In general, Vietnamese and Chinese work on the site in Myanmar due to lack of skilled workers in Myanmar. Thanks to the construction technology vocational training center, it is possible to secure local manpower in Myanmar."
