Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) announced on Dec. 18 that it has completed the construction of Johan Sverdrup and P1 Platform and successfully delivered it to the owner.
The Johan Sverdrup P1 Platform is an ocean project that SHI won for $580 million (650 billion won) from Equinor in Norway in 2015. It is a large crude oil production facility that is 136 meters long, 69 meters wide, and 72 meters high and weighs 28,100 tons.
Based on its rich experiences for large marine construction projects such as Shell Prelude FLNG and Egina FPSO, SHI minimized risks by using Samsung Lessons Learned System and succeeded in delivering the flawless platform at a right time, the company spokesman said.
Analysts say that the company once again proved to the market its ability to carry out maritime projects by achieving a performance of zero critical disaster during 16 million hours injected for works.
The Sverdrup P1 Platform will arrive at an offshore oil field 140 kilometers west of Stavanger in Norway early next year and will produce and refine the maximum 440,000 barrels of crude oil a day after installation and offshore trial operation. The oil field is a large minefield with an estimated reserve of 2.2 billion to 3.3 billion barrels.
