The Korean Government and private companies together invested KRW 21 trillion. They plan to enlarge the localization rate of display equipment and materials into 70 percent from the current rate of 50 percent by 2015 and distribute AM-OLED panel for TV into general homes through mass production by 2013.
The very previous day, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy made a report, "Trends and Response plans for the Display Industry," and announced the development plan for next generation displays and related equipment and material industry at the crisis management conference.
Currently China's industrial development on LCD has begun in earnest. The LCD market competition is getting harsh. Therefore, the Korean Government and private industries have decided to expand their investment toward high value sectors such as the next generation displays and equipment and materials to keep its position as the number one display market in the world. Also they will reorganize the system of material industry, mainly in northeast Asia division of labor system. The Korean Government will run a "Next Generation LCD equipment and material development council" and promote the demand-linked development for 11G LDC and AM-OLED.
In the meantime, It is well-known that the Chinese Government is about to approve investment from inside and outside of the country and will promote fundraising for the amount of US$ 15 billion for expansion of production bases for 7G and 8G LCD.
