It has been confirmed that radon higher than the standard was detected in the bed products of  Sealy. The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC) issued a collection order to the company concerned on Feb. 13.

Radon is a cancerous substance designated by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and is known to be the main cause of lung cancer through respiratory organs.

According to the NSSC, six types of beds that were produced and sold by the Sealy Korea Company from January 2014 to November 2016 exceeded the safety standard (1mSv/year) for processed products, which were set by the Safety Management Act on peripheral radiation.

When the product was used for 10 hours a day at a height of 2cm, the annual exposure dose was found to be up to 4.436mSv. All of these models contained "monazite," the causative substance of radon emissions.
