Samsung Display received a certification from TÜV Rheinland in Germany for its smartphone OLED that drastically reduced blue light. This OLED is applied to Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S10 series.
Samsung Display made an announcement on Feb. 21 that it has obtained "Eye Comfort" certification from TÜV by lowering the portion of harmful blue light of the newly developed smartphone OLED panels to 7% that is the lowest level in the industry.
By applying a new technology that adjusts blue light wavelengths of OLEDs, it reduced the portion of harmful blue light areas from the current 12% to 7%. It also reduced blue light by more than 61 percent compared to ordinary LCDs, the company stressed.
It is usually known that color accuracy falls in case of reducing blue light. "However, we have succeeded in keeping the DCI-P3, which is the optimal color standard for playing a display video, at 100 percent while adjusting wavelengths of blue light," Samsung Display said. "It is a more comfortable display for eyes while maintaining excellent image quality."
Samsung Display also said that it has obtained 'Eye Comfort' certification by reducing the portion of harmful blue light of OLED for 15.6 type laptops that were recently introduced by 8%.
