Hyundai Engineering has signed a contract to build a water purification plant in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo).

According to the company on April 3, the total contract amount is $61 million, and the project is to set up a water purification plant and a 29km-long power drainpipe in Lemba Imbu, southeast of Kinshasa, the capital city.

The DR Congo Waterworks Corporation (Regideso) placed an order to address the shortage of water in the area, and Hyundai Engineering was in charge of purchasing and construction. The estimated construction period is 33 months.

Meanwhile, the DR Congo government has a strong will to build SOC infrastructure. It is expected to place additional orders in the future as it continues to push for rebuilding the country based on international aid.

"We have been carrying out various water supply and drainage facilities projects to improve infrastructure environment in Equatorial Guinea for many years since 2005 and have held high recognition in construction projects related to water treatment in Africa," a Hyundai Engineering official said.

The project is to set up a water purification plant and a 29km-long power drainpipe in Lemba Imbu, southeast of Kinshasa, the capital city.
