LG Display surpassed 100 million units in the cumulative sales of displays for vehicles in the first quarter of this year. It is the first time in 14 years since it entered the vehicle display market with the Center Information Display (CID) in 2005.

LG Display has sold 1.5 million square meters of display area for vehicles, which is about 200 times the size of soccer field.

According to a market research company called IHS Markit, LG Display has maintained its top position in global display markets for vehicles with 5-inch or higher in terms of quantity, sales and area for the eight consecutive quarters since the first quarter of 2017.

LG Display has been nurturing the sector as a future growth business, expecting the market for displays for vehicles to grow in line with the convergence of cars and IT.

While it secured competitive edge in products with its own technologies such as wide viewing angle technology IPS (In-Plane Switching) and in-TOUCH that increased accuracy of touch, it also greatly enhanced stability by introducing a flame retardant certification program for all of its vehicles' displays for the first time in the industry.

As variety of spaces in vehicles are being replaced by displays, the display market for vehicles are expanding. The future era of self-driving cars is expected to widen the scope of display applications, introducing innovative products such as rollable and transparent displays for vehicles," said a representative for Samsung Electronics.
