KORAIL President Son Byung-seok said on April 11 that all of the OSJD (Organization for Co-operation between Railways) members are firmly supportive of the connection of inter-Korean railways and South Korea's entry into the continental railway.
In a press conference held at the Lotte Hotel in Sogong-dong, Seoul, Son said, "Representatives of member countries discussed a total of 15 agenda items to enhance competitiveness of the continental railways under the motto of peace and prosperity in Eurasia through railways."
"KORAIL conducted substantial discussions on the current system and technology fields on an equal footing with the continental railway operators and drew up what needs to be supplemented for future operation of the continental railway," he said.
"It is regrettable that we will postpone the opportunity to discuss the inter-Korean railway with the North Korea's railway representatives, which everyone had hoped for," he said. "KORAIL will prepare for the operation of the continental railway step by step by improving active exchange cooperation with member countries and foreign competitiveness."
President Moon Jae-in sent a congratulatory address to the meeting last year, saying, "Efforts to connect the Inter-Korean railway will be a period to complete the Eurasia Iron Silk Road.
Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Hyun-mee also attended the opening ceremony, saying, "I hope that the inter-Korean railway project will be successfully carried out and the day that trains in South Korea will travel freely and come as soon as possible."
