The Ministry of Employment and Labor raided the president's office and other offices of GM Korea's headquarters on April 30 over the alleged illegal dispatch of non-regular workers from suppliers.

The ministry said it has dispatched some 60 officers, including labor supervisors, to search the offices of GM Korea headquarters in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, including the president's office, and secured documents of work sent by the management to suppliers.

The ministry believes GM Korea illegally dispatched nearly 1,700 irregular workers from in-house suppliers to its Bupyong and Changwon plants.

Accordingly, after analyzing the searched data, GM Korea officials will soon be called in as references to investigate whether they were illegally dispatched.

The ministry has been investigating the case since January last year, when the Korea Metal Workers' Union's non-regular branch of GM Korea filed a complaint with the prosecution against the management for violating the law on protecting dispatched workers.

GM Korea's labor union has been staging a tent sit-in in front of the building of the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office since December last year, demanding the prosecution indict GM Korea President Kaher Kazem as soon as possible.

"We have conducted a search and seizure to secure evidence on the previous illegal dispatch," said an official at the ministry. "As soon as we analyze the data, we will call in officials from the management who are believed to be related to the illegal dispatch."
