Prosecutors investigating Samsung BioLogics' alleged accounting fraud investigated and  sent back an employee of its subsidiary who stole the company's public server and had been hiding it at his home.

Judging that the employee could not have taken the server off of his own and kept it at home, prosecutors suspect that the group has been working to destroy evidence.

According to the prosecution on May 5, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office arrested a Samsung Bioepis team leader on charges of destroying evidence on May 3.

Prosecutors said they found evidence that the man had diverted the company's official server to his home between May and June last year while investigating the accounting fraud scandal.

The prosecution sent the man home after completing the investigation for less than 48 hours after his emergency arrest. An official at the prosecution said, "He is a working-level official and did not request an arrest warrant because he is believed to have diverted the server after receiving a specific instruction from his superior."

The company's official server, which was kept by the man, is said to have been used by executives and employees inside the Samsung Bioepis. On top of that, the company's internal documents and other documents could be stored and viewed by employees.

The prosecution is currently working on a digital forensics, believing that the server it secured may contain key data that could reveal Samsung's alleged accounting fraud.

Samsung BioLogics is suspected of inflating the company's value with improper accounting when it merged with Samsung C&T and Cheil Industries in 2015, and thus raising the value of Cheil Industries, where Samsung Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong was the majority shareholder.

In a related move, the Securities and Futures Commission under the Financial Services Commission filed a complaint with the prosecution last year, accusing Samsung BioLogics of intentionally accounting fraud worth 4.5 trillion won.
