Samsung Electronics has yet to finalize the release date of its foldable smartphone Galaxy Fold, which was postponed due to the controversy over a screen defect. Some predict that it will take some time to strengthen quality as screen glitches are more serious than expected.
"We are making progress in enhancing the quality of Galaxy Fold to the level that our customers expect," Samsung Electronics said in an e-mail to American pre-bookers who booked Galaxy Fold on May 6 (local time). "For this reason, we cannot confirm the expected release date."
Samsung earlier said in an e-mail to U.S. pre-bookers that it will provide additional information on the launch within two weeks, delaying the launch of the Galaxy Fold on April 23.
Some predict that it will take about a month longer than one to two weeks for Samsung Electronics to announce the release date of Galaxy Fold as it does not specify the release date.
The Galaxy Fold was originally scheduled to be released in the U.S. on April 26, but its release was delayed after screen defects were found in products distributed for review.
Two of the four early review phones in question were thought to be damaged by removing screen shields, while the other two were presumed to be problems of "impacting the exposed part of the display at the junction" and "damage by foreign matter."
As a result, Samsung Electronics is considering strengthening adhesion between screen protective film and display while minimizing exposure of upper and lower displays in foldable areas.
Meanwhile, Koh Dong-jin, head of Samsung Electronics' IM division, said in an interview with a media outlet on April 9 that the company has finished analyzing the cause of the defect, and will conclude the launch of the product within a few days. He added that it won't take long until the release.
