Hussain A. Al-Qahtani, 52, has been appointed as the new CEO of S-OIL, a company spokesman said on June 13.
S-OIL held a board of directors meeting on July 13 and appointed Al-Qahtani, who was newly appointed as the company's director at an extraordinary shareholders' meeting on July 11, as its new CEO.
The new CEO Al-Qahtani is known to be familiar with the overall management activities as well as the strategic growth and development of the global energy petrochemical industry, as he has served as the CEO of Saudi Aramco Shell Refinery Company (SASREF), a subsidiary of Saudi Aramco, a major shareholder of S-OIL, since 2016.
Al-Qahtani graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering at King Fahd University in Saudi Arabia and took a CEO's class at the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), a Swiss business school.
During his 29-year career at Saudi Arabia's state-run Saudi Aramco, the world's largest oil company, he played a key role in production, engineering and projects, gaining expertise and leadership as a manager.
After serving as oil refinery manager of Saudi Aramco Yanbu, he also worked as the head of the process control system and the local joint venture management director, recognizing for his capabilities in transferring technologies, research and development and facility planning that can optimize assets and operations.
"CEO Al-Qahtani has a lot of expertise and experience since he has shown leadership in petrochemical fields for nearly 30 years," said an S-OIL official, adding, "He is an excellent candidate for strategic growth and excellent performance of S-OIL, which is pushing to expand and upgrade petrochemicals in preparation for an era of ever-increasing energy conversion."
