Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction said on June 24 that it has signed a contract with the UAE nuclear power plant operator Nawah Energy Company in Abu Dhabi on a maintenance project for the Barakah nuclear power plant.

Nawah CEO Mark Reddemann, Mohamed Al Hammadi, CEO of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, and other key executives, including Doosan Heavy Vice Presidents Na Ki-yong and Mok Jin-won, attended the signing ceremony.

Under the deal, Doosan Heavy will carry out maintenance services for a total of four nuclear power plants for five years, including those at the Barakah nuclear power plant in the UAE's Abu Dhabi Al Dhafra region.

In particular, Doosan Heavy plans to provide safe and reliable maintenance services based on its know-how in supplying key equipment such as nuclear reactors, turbines and power generators.

Based on strong trust and friendly relations between the UAE and Korea, this achievement has been made possible in recognition of Korea's excellent nuclear power plant technology and operational capabilities.

"During close cooperation with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) and KEPCO KPS, Doosan has been involved in the construction of the nuclear power plant in Barakah for more than 10 years," a Doosan Heavy official said. "We will do our best to ensure that the plant is safely and efficiently operated since it will serve as an opportunity for us to enter overseas nuclear power service markets."
