Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction said on July 1 that it has received a Type Certificate for 5.56MW offshore wind power generation system from the UL DEWI-OCC, an international certification agency for wind power generation. The 5.5-MW system is the largest model in the country's wind power market.
After securing 5.5 MW wind power generation technology in 2017, Doosan Heavy succeeded in commercializing 5.56 MW products through two years of research and development.
The model currently has about five years of driving performance at the demonstration complex in Gimnyeong, Jeju Island. In October 2016, it also proved its high stability by operating normally on Typhoon Chaba, which ranked fourth in terms of daily maximum wind speed (56.5 meters/s).
Meanwhile, Doosan Heavy was selected last year by the Korea Energy Technology Evaluation Institute as a key institution to lead the project for "development of an 8MW high-capacity offshore wind power system". It is in charge of designing, manufacturing and verifying the model with the aim of commercializing it in 2022.
Doosan Heavy has participated in the Tamra Offshore Wind Power (30MW) and the Southwest Sea Offshore Wind Power (60MW) and is currently maintaining the supply performance of 236.5MW as of June 2019.
