Samsung C&T's construction unit has received a Letter of Award for the KLCC Podium Building (KLCC Lot L and M Podium) project ordered by Arah Moden Sdn Bhd in Malaysia.
Samsung C&T will carry out the project alone, and the total amount of construction is 179 million U.S. dollars (about 207 billion won). The total construction period is 40 months. Construction is scheduled to begin on July 15, 2019 and complete in October 2022.
The project is being pushed by the Malaysian government in Kuala Lumpur. It's part of the government's City Center Master Plan. It is a construction project to build a sixth-floor complex.
The building will house shopping malls and department stores as well as a gallery in Petronas, Malaysia's state-run energy company. Also, the project will be completed by the end of 2022. It will also be linked to the station of the new subway system, which is scheduled to be completed.
Some sections of the KLCC podium construction are irregular shaped structures that protrude outward without columns. Samsung C&T has successfully carried out Dongdaemun Design Plaza, the world's largest irregular shaped structure.
KLCC, the parent company of Arah Moden, is the firm that ordered the projects for Petronas Twin Towers, Maxis Tower and KLCC Lot 91 that Samsung C&T built.
Samsung C&T succeeded in winning consecutive orders with trust from the owner, and continues to have a good relationship, a company spokesman said.
Samsung C&T made its name known by building Malaysia's landmark Petronas Twin Towers and is currently carrying out construction work for Star Residence, UM City, Merdeka PNB 118, KLCC Lot 91 in Malaysia. With the construction of this mall complex, it has strengthened its position in Malaysian architectural market.
