LG Display CEO & Vice Chairman Han Sang-beom

LG Display (Vice Chairman Han Sang-beom) invited heads and managers of security teams from 150 business partners at El Tower in Yangjae-dong on July 17 and announced that it held "6th workshop on shared growth of LG Display and its business partners' security capabilities."

The event has been held on a regular basis every year since 2014, when it signed an agreement with more than 20 suppliers in cooperation with the Korea Association for Industrial Technology Security(KAITS).

Currently, about 150 security officials from its business partners are attending. The event supports business partners to improve their security capabilities through training on the latest laws and technology trends related to security, and training on enhancing awareness of security among executives and employees.

During the workshop, LG Display stressed that information security is a must for successful business and called for thorough security management of key technology and business information such as customer's technology road map, product specifications, volume and price information.

In order to improve the working level of security personnel of its business partners, LG Display also invited outside experts to give special lectures on how to respond to the recently revised Business Secret Protection Act, hacking security to prevent technology leakage, and human-centered security management.

The importance of industrial security is growing day by day to maintain the country's manufacturing competitiveness," said Koo Nam-yoon, vice chairman of KAITS. "He also called on companies to work together and continuously to ensure a global level of security competitiveness."

With the recent fierce global technology competition, major IT companies are demanding strong security from their partners, not only core manufacturing technology information but also management information such as technology roadmaps, product specifications and production plans.

In particular, small and medium-sized suppliers are relatively weak in security. Thus, hackers are increasingly trying to access them and steal technical information.

"Protecting information on customers' business secrets is an activity that increases customer value, and a trusted information security system is a factor that differentiates business's competitiveness," said Yang Jae-hoon, vice president of LG Display's management support group. "As its importance has been emphasized more recently, LG Display will cooperate with its partners to thoroughly manage the entire supply chain so that it can have a high-quality security system."

LG Display, meanwhile, operated a "special customized security enhancement support program" for its key partners for two weeks from June 25. In the program, LG Display's security experts visited business partners to check and improve security conditions, provide security consulting and guides, and provide education for employees to enhance security awareness. It pledged to provide additional active support for matters that need improvement after the inspection.
