After the success Avatar had within the 3D movie industry, KDC, a leading 3D industry enterprise, decided to boost their supply of 3D glasses. On June 9^th, 2010, it was announced that KDC plans to supply at least 100 million 3D glasses by the end of this year. Supplying 100 million 3D eyeglasses means the whole population of Korea could possess 2 pairs of glasses. The sales of 100 million 3D glasses is expected to be about KRW 5 billion.

 

This increase of supply will mark a tremendous boost from the previous years. KDC supplied 130,000 in 2007, 700,000 in 2008, 10 million in 2009 and is expected to supply about 36.7 million in the first half of this year. Quarterly analysis shows that the quantity supplied in the 1^st quarter of this year was at 11.7 million and more than doubled to 25 million in the 2^nd quarter. In June of this year alone, orders received for 3D glasses were about 9.5 million.

KDC President Kim Sang Jin stated, "This year, our company's 3D industry area is expecting sales of KRW 5 billion. Even with this area's sales alone, our company would call that a success. The sales plan for the 3D area for this year includes theater equipment and 3D LCD. We expect it to sharply increase total sales of the 3D area to KRW 8 billion." If this amount is reached, that means the company will almost triple the sales recorded from last year's KRW 2.8 billion within the 3D area.
