Ssangyong Motor said on Aug. 1 that its overall sales, combined with domestic demand and exports, fell by 16.5 percent year-on-year to 10,786 units in July.
Domestic sales fell 11.4 percent from the same period last year to 8,707 units. The Korando, the full-change model introduced earlier this year, saw its sales rise 213.8 percent on-year to 1,020 units, but the G4 Rexton suffered a 39 percent drop to 964 units in the large SUV market. The Tivoli declined 5.5 percent to 3,435 units.
Exports came to 2,079 units, down 32.8 percent from the same period last year. Exports of Tivoli plunged 71.8 percent on-year to 525 units, it said.
Ssangyong Motor said both domestic demand and exports showed a decline due to weak consumer sentiment stemming from the sluggish economy, adding that exports, in particular, have continued to suffer sluggish sales as the lineup is being reshuffled.
"Although overall demand in the market is sluggish, sales have increased compared to the previous month due to the release of the new model Very New Tivoli," said Yea Byung-tae, CEO of Ssangyong Motor, adding, "We will increase global sales based on our strengthened lineup of Korando gasoline models and product improvement models."
