Hankook Tire & Technology has won the "2019 TyreSafe Awards" from the British tire safety-related organization TyreSafe.
The Tyre Safe Awards are awarded to individuals and companies worldwide, including in the Britain, for their contributions to improving tire safety awareness. Hankook Tire won the tire maker's category for its campaign to raise awareness of the need for tire management.
An investigation into tire safety recognition found that 80% of British drivers do not know the legal standard for tire tread wear limits (1.6mm), and 45% of young drivers are considering purchasing used tires with no history of use.
Hankook Tire conducted the campaign to improve drivers' awareness and behavior on tire management and safety, informing them of the results of its investigation into tire safety awareness and the importance of regular tire checks.
Its internal tally showed that messages from the campaign were delivered to about 6 million people.
TyreSafe is a group formed in 2006 to reduce tire-related accidents and to inform the importance of tire management and the risk of tire defects or illegal tires.
It is promoting the importance of tire safety through cooperation with transportation and safety-related government agencies as well as tire manufacturing, distribution and sales companies.
In fact, it reduced the number of deaths or serious injuries caused by tire-related accidents by 46 percent.
