LG Uplus made an announcement on Aug. 27 that it will enter the cloud game market based on 5G network for the first time in the world.

To that end, LG Uplus plans to introduce "GeForce NOW," a cloud game service that is available without downloading from 5G smartphones and PCs, on its own, in partnership with Nvidia, a global leader in computer graphics.

GeForce NOW is NVIDIA's cloud game service and has selected some 300,000 people from North America and Western Europe to provide them in the form of a free beta (demonstration) service. With more than 1 million people waiting to participate in the pilot service, it is expected to become a next-generation game platform.

In case of using GeForce NOW, smartphones and PCs only support screen output and input, and the computing process required for games takes place on cloud servers.

Accordingly, high-quality games can be streamed from the cloud in just a few seconds from not only 5G smartphones but also from low-end PCs and notebooks.

"As CEO Jensen Huang said at the GTC conference at the beginning of the year, LG Uplus is a very important partner as GeForce NOW's first partner," said an official from NVIDIA Korea. "Based on LG Uplus' 5G network, we are pleased to be the first in the world to introduce GeForce NOW to local game users."

"We are able to introduce 5G network-based cloud services that guarantee LG Uplus' ultra-low latency for the first time in the world. AR, VR, and games are provided to customers to continuously enhance competitiveness of 5G contents," said an official for LG Uplus.
