Volvo Cars Korea said on Sept. 20 that it will voluntarily correct the fuel efficiency of its "XC60 D5 AWD" model and pay up to 1,298,748 won in compensation to 3,553 customers who have already bought the vehicles.
"We voluntarily reported it to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport as we found errors in the calculation of the figures during the regular internal verification process," a Volvo company official said. "We will pay compensation to customers and face fines in accordance with relevant laws."
Volvo Korea has changed the fuel efficiency of the XC60 D5 AWD from 12.9 km/l (urban 11.7/expressway 14.8) to 11.7 km/l (urban 10.4/expressway 13.8).
Volvo Korea will receive application from customers and pay them compensation for the five-year fuel cost difference (an annual average of 20,000 kilometers) and psychological inconvenience, according to the relevant laws from Oct. 21.
The compensation is up to 1,298,748 won. A total of 3,553 units of the 2018 and 2019 XC60 D5 AWD models are subject to the compensation.
