Nexon's "Durango" will be out of service. It has been one year and 10 months since its release. The end of the service is Dec. 18. Durango gained huge popularity right after its launch, but failed to maintain its early momentum and weakened its sales.
Durango is a game that Nexon has been working on for a long time. It was first announced under the name "Project K" in 2012 and was officially released on Jan. 25 last year.
Shortly after its release, it became popular as it ranked fourth in sales of Google Play. Since then, Nexon has hinted at the service's sustainability, saying, "Durango was planned as a long-lasting game."
"Durango doesn't have much sales, but it has a lot of users and traffic that enjoy Durango," a Nexon Korea official said at a press conference last year. "Durango has been planned as a project that will last for more than 10 years, and we are thinking hard about how to make good games and content."
In other words, the project, which had been expected to last for more than 10 years, will be closed in less than two years. Nexon introduced AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology to create new AI-generated environments around game users' characters.
However, some South Korean game users say that user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) are not suitable for mobile devices. Although Durango was planned as a real PC and online game, some analysts say that the game has been changed to a mobile game.
After Durango's release in Korea, Nexon launched its global launch in May of the same year, seeking to turn around in overseas markets. It supported 10 languages, including Korean and English, Thai, German and French, and carried out the global launch of Durango, but failed to make a box office hit.
