This could be called to stir things in the materials, process and marketing departments for Tech...The Ministry of Environment plans to make public the amount of chemicals released by all corporations (4,010), which are subject to the Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) system.

The system is a policy that induces corporations to voluntarily reduce their discharge of chemicals by having each corporation report the types and amounts of chemicals discharged into the environment to the Ministry of Environment, which then shares the report data with the government, corporations, and the people.

The amount of chemicals released had been made public under the category of region, substance, and type of business until 2007 but the category was expanded to include the amount of discharge by each corporation in 2008.

In 2008, chemical discharge by 59 corporations was released and the number increased to 383 in 2009. In order to guarantee the public's right to know and induce voluntary reduction in chemical discharge, the ministry plans to release chemical discharge by all 4,010 corporations, which had submitted the report from 2002 to 2009.

The information will be available through the website, http://ncis.nier.go.kr/triopen. According to the recent data, 215 types of chemicals (129,345tons) have been dealt with and among them, 204 types (47,625 tons) have been discharged into environment and the rate of discharge has been decreased every year.

Corporations have reduced chemical discharge by improvement of facilities, management of process, and replacement of substances.

The ministry expects that corporations' management of chemicals will be improved and 'risk communication (RC) system,' by which stakeholders can exchange information on chemicals and vague anxiety about chemicals can be relieved, will be facilitated.
