S-OIL held the "2019 Civic Hero of the Year award ceremony" at its headquarters in Gongdeok-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul on Nov. 25, and selected 23 civic heroes of the year for their righteous spirit of sacrifice to save their endangered neighbors, delivering 140 million won in prize money to them.
S-OIL delivered the prize money and plaque to the civic heroes who displayed courage, wit and spirit of sacrifice in times of crisis.
Among the prize winners were Kim Young-geun, 64, who was injured in July in a fast food store in Gangnam-gu, Seoul against a criminal who grabbed a female manager and threatened her with a knife, Sung Ji-hoon, 42, who witnessed a robbery threatening a convenience store owner with knife, reported it to the police, and helped the police by overpowering the robber.
"I hope the courageous actions of the hidden heroes will be a role model for many people," said S-OIL CEO Hussain A. Al-Qahtani. "S-OIL will be a protector that can be trusted and relied on, and thus contribute to a society where courage is respected."
Since 2008, S-OIL has held a civic hero award ceremony to encourage and support the righteous who have displayed a brave civic spirit to save their neighbors from dangerous situations.
