Seoul-YONHAP-The first Korean geostationary ocean weather satellite was targetted for launch just after dawn this morning at the Guiana Space Center in Kourou in French Guiana. This launch is in delay due to fault with mechnical instruments.
"The launch has been put on hold pending the examination of the cause," a spokesperson for KARI said.
The 2.5 ton satellite is designed to give Seoul timely and accurate data on weather and oceanographic information around the Korean Peninsula and acts as a communications satellite. The Chollian satellite is attached to the 780-ton Ariane 5-ECA space rocket.
Seoul spent more than 350 billion won (US$293 million) and eight years to build the high-tech satellite that is expected to remain in operation for seven years.
