Hoban Industries, a construction unit of the Hoban Group, said on Jan. 29 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Germany's Herrenknecht, the world's largest producer of Tunnel Boring Machines, for mutual cooperation and the domestic development of TBM technology in Seocho-gu, Seoul.
About 20 officials from both sides attended the signing ceremony, including Kim Jin-won, CEO of Hoban Industries, Martin Devid, vice chairman of Herrenknecht.
The state-of-the-art tunnel excavator TBM is an automated machine that can drill underground space, and Hoban TBM, a subsidiary of Hoban Industries, won a 102.9 billion won order to build Gripper TBM at the fifth A zone of the GTX.
Under the agreement, Hoban Industries supports Herrenknecht to manufacture equipment suitable for domestic construction conditions and ground conditions. The company expects to improve its construction capability following the technical training of the operation of TBM equipment by Herrenknecht.
"With this agreement, we will upgrade our TBM construction capabilities and continue to train professional workers," said CEO Kim. "We will continue to achieve additional results in the domestic and overseas TBM market based on our performance and technical skills."
