A total of 19,260 units, including 12,902 units of Hyundai's Sonata and Mercedes-Benz Korea's C 220 CDI, will be recalled.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said on Jan. 30 that it will take corrective action after production defects were found in 35,868 units of a total of 15 models manufactured by Hyundai and imported and sold by Mercedes-Benz Korea and Ford Sales Service Korea.
The 12,902 Sonata sedans, manufactured and sold by Hyundai Motor from March to September last year, were included in the recall list due to the possibility of faulty start-up due to faulty manufacturing of the inside printed circuit.
The 19,260 units of the C 220 CDI imported and sold by Mercedes-Benz Korea will be recalled after metal fragments from internal components caused by excessive explosive pressure from the inflator are confirmed to cause injuries to drivers and others in the event of airbag deployment.
In addition, 3,706 Mondero units imported and sold by Ford Sales Korea will be recalled due to the risk of heating up the lower part of the battery monitoring sensor due to the production of copper sulfate around the battery negative terminal.
