Korail said on Feb. 10 that it has won a gold award in the concept design category for "Eurasia high-speed train" at the international design competition "iF Design Awards 2020" and the main prize in the product design category for "Automatic ticket machine."
The iF Design Awards is organized by the International Forum in Hannover, Germany, and is considered one of the world's top three design awards along with Germany's "Red Dot" and the U.S.' "IDEA."
The contest featured 7,300 designs from 56 countries, with 74 winning the gold medal, the highest prize.
The Eurasian bullet train is a concept design envisioned by the Korail Design Center to run along the Trans-Siberian railway in the future.
By drastically reducing the size of existing products and optimizing the user interface, ticket vending machines can easily and quickly access the purchase process, including ticket sales, return and payment.
"We will expand the public design area so that users can meet railways more easily, comfortably and beautifully," said Jeon Kyung-hee, head of the Korail Design Center.
