Merck Opens Application Phase for the 3rd ‘Merck Accelerator China‚ to Startups for Open Innovation

Merck today announced that it has opened the 1st session for 2020 of applications for startup companies to participate in the global Merck Accelerator China program. Startups will cooperate with Merck experts at the company’s China Innovation Hub in Shanghai and sites in Guangdong, Beijing.

Separated from the Merck Accelerator program in Germany, it marks third phase, as an important part of Merck’s global innovation network, Merck Innovation Hub China is committed to partnering with startups, academic institutions, industry players and local governments, combining unique technology and expertise from Merck Group and collaborators with the goal to develop novel technology and bring new solutions to the market for China and global. 

“Merck generate new business by driving innovation beyond what we are currently doing,” encouraged Glenn Young, the Managing Director and Representative Director of Merck Korea . “Collaborating with startups around the globe via the Merck Accelerator offers the exciting opportunity to create a win-win situation for both the startups and Merck. They gain access to a strong partner with a lot of experience in partnerships that helps them to accelerate their industry-ready business, whereas we obtain fresh stimulus to drive innovation beyond our current activities. Joining forces can create an impact in tackling the challenges of humanity.”

The 3-month Merck Accelerator China program runs two intakes per year, up to 5-6 startups will join our Innovation Hubs and intensively collaborate with our internal experts to explore opportunities, test their solution and build up a partnership. The inspiring six teams of the 2nd intake of Merck Accelerator China program benefited from:

- More than 200 hours of in-depth 1&1 session with Merck global experts during the 18-weeks program phase
- 5 tailored modules
- Attending 5 inspirational and renowned events in the startup ecosystem
- 30% of the startups raised their next funding round
- 67% of the startups developed POC (Proof of Concept) projects with Merck
- The first time to experience online modules and Demo Day

Besides the core areas of Merck research in Healthcare, Life Science and Performance Materials, the main focus of the Merck Accelerator is to partner with startups in the company’s innovation fields:

- AI-enabled health solutions
- Liquid Biopsy Technologies
- Clean Meat
- Neuromorphic Systems
- Organoids
- Bioelectronics
