Hybrid SCR systems launched

'Korea Power Engineering Company (An Seung-kyoo, president of KOPEC) has succesfully developed Hybrid SCR DeNOx system in the Ulsan Thermal Power Plant Unit 6 On July 2.

Special guests attended the inaguration ceremony of Hybrid SCR DeNOx system. Park Chi-seon, director of the plant business division of KOPEC, Im Han-gyu, director of business development in Korea East-West Power, Cheon Byeong-ryeol, director of business management in Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning (KETEP), all attended the ceremony along with a hundred other attendees .

The Hybrid Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) NOx system was one of the power industry R&D projects in the Ministry of Knowledge Economy. The research is to complement equipment with increasing regulation of nitrogen oxide emissions and solve the problems of SCR systems at low load operations. The Ministry of Knowledge Economy supported the completion of this project with the budget of 10.5 billion in past three years since August 2007.

KOPEC, cooperated with small businesses such as Hanmo Corperation and Daeyoung Chemical in order to develop the system technology, succeeded in developing and applied for domestic patents and also the results of this study was equipped with the Ulsan heavy fuel oil fired Unit 6 in Korea East-West Power.

Low CO2 emission at reduced cost

Because of emitted nitrogen oxide from power plants and boilers, according to the latest increasing environmental regulations, it is essential to be equipped with DeNOx Facilities, therefore, the internal dependence on the external is very high.

In North America and China they recently expanded the market of denitrification, 5 trillion won of DeNOx facilities and about 1 trillion won of catalyst demanded will be expected to occur each year and the country spent approximately 2 hundreds million won a year as a catalyst for the 30,000 ㎥ amounts.

In this situation, the technology is expected to bring economic benefits of 233 billion wons a year. The costs that can replace catalysts imports will be about 200 billion won and a fuel saving potential that the temperature of the exhaust emissions is made to operate SCR operating at low load is expected about 33 billion won.

The reductions of greenhouse gas gives rise to CO ₂reduction effect, 5,600 tonne per unit 1 generator per year ,and CDM project as well as the response to increasing environmental regulations is expected to be possible in fuel oil fired unit 11 and combined cycle plant unit 80.

Utilization in the construction and improvement of DeNOx Facilities both at home and abroad

KOPEC is planning to utilize the DeNOx technology to improve power plants and industrial boilers.

Supplying Hybrid SCR equipment to the low load heavy oil fired power plants, district heating boilers and petrochemical facilities beyond the internal generating systems causes to reduce the additional fuel costs and a lower heated coal is introduced that the denitrification efficiency can be solved by the lower exhaust gas temperatures. It will be also taken advantage of publicizing overseas. China is about to build up it roughly 20 trillion wons by 2015 and starts using the technology as promoting the excellence of our technology plans.

The growth in eco-friendly company that contributes to Low Carbon and Green Growth policies

KOPEC ensures there is a global technology in the designed field of the thermal power plants.

Following the trend of the reduction of greenhouse gas in response to recent climate change, KOPEC were interested in removing contaminants and they are focusing on the desulfurization and denitrification facilities of Air Pollution Control Facility.

G-7, one of the projects for the environmental technology development, propelled by the Korean Electric Power Absorption Reactor (KEPAR) is successfully completed and contributed to the localization of desulfurization facilities with commercializing and The low-temperature DeNOx catalyst (KoNOx Ⓡ) has been developed that reacts at low as well as high-temperatures.

KoNOx Ⓡ is especially certified as the new environmental technology (NT) and a world-class product.

KOPEC continues to invest in the ESCO (Energy Service Company) business as well as desulfurization and denitrification and they are doing their best effort in order to grow as environmentally friendly companies with one step ahead of technology and services that contribute to low carbon, green growth policy.
