KEPCO KDN signed an industry-academic agreement with Korea University on convergence security at its headquarters on April 29.
The signing ceremony was attended by Park Sung-joon, president of KEPCO KDN Power ICT Research Institute, and Lee Sang-jin, dean of Korea University's Graduate School of Information Security.
This agreement is designed to secure core technologies that will lead innovation growth by establishing a cooperative system in the convergence security sector, including smart cities, between the two organizations, and to nurture field-tailored talent.
The main contents include study on smart city security technology policy, training of professional manpower, joint utilization of research facilities and equipment, and exchange of latest technologies and co-hosting workshops.
The two agencies expect the MOU to strengthen R&D capabilities in the energy security sector, and in particular, improve the security level of smart cities in Korea and secure global competitiveness.
KEPCO KDN President Park said, "We will cooperate with Korea University, which is recognized for its best information protection research capabilities in Korea and abroad. KEPCO KDN can contribute to the government's energy policy through proven device certification and cryptography technology in the energy sector."
Meanwhile, KEPCO KDN has been carrying out major smart city projects in the country since last year. It also plans to continue to make efforts to realize eco-friendly Zero Energy City and develop a model for citizen-participating smart city business.
