Daebo Group said it has canceled the Seowon Valley Charity Green Concert scheduled for May 30 in an effort to help overcome the COVID-19 crisis.

The Seowon Valley Charity Green Concert (Green Concert), which has been held on the last Saturday of May every year since 2000, is a representative social contribution activity of Daebo Group. It is the first time this year that a concert has not been held since 2004, except in a few years when it was suspended due to golf course construction in the initial stage.

The Green Concert is the only golf course concert in Korea that the whole family members can play on the grass, participate in donations through charity bazaars, and also watch concerts by famous singers in the golf course open to the public for free.

It is regarded as a large-scale festival that changed its view of golf positively and achieved regional harmony, and has developed into a global Korean Wave concert that also attracts foreign visitors.

In particular, Korean Wave stars and celebrities, including BTS, Wanna One, IU, EXID and Girl's Day, have also been on stage with talent donations for the purpose of charity.

From the first concert until last year, the cumulative number of visitors is 440,000 and the accumulated donation is about 450 million won (some $368,000). Since 2008, the fairway of golf courses has been opened as parking lots due to an increase in visitors, making headlines.

In a recent survey conducted by a sports media outlet, Daebo Group Chairman Choi, Dung Kyu and Seowon Valley Country Club were selected as the number one golf course and the person who contributed to popular culture and charity at golf courses.

"We have always wanted to hold the Green Concert, which has been continued with enthusiastic support, but we decided to cancel the concert after deep consideration to join the government's policy of keeping social distance in our daily lives," said Chairman Choi. "We are very sorry and ask for your understanding."

"The purpose of charity will continue," he added. "I hope to return to daily life as soon as possible and see the whole family playing happily on the Seowon Valley grass in May, the season of fresh green."

Meanwhile, Daebo Group donated 100 million won ($81,900) to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association in March, which was raised by executives and employees of its affiliates such as Daebo Engineering & Construction, Daebo Industrial, Daebo Distribution, Daebo Communication & Systems Corporation and Seowon Valley Country Club.
