KT&G provided the Indonesian government with COVID-19 diagnostic kits worth 100 million won (some $82,000) on May 5. KT&G has decided to offer the support to fulfill its global social responsibility and help Indonesia overcome the crisis as it is operating overseas operations in the country.

Indonesia is a partner country that started diplomatic relations with South Korea in 1973 and has continued various industrial exchanges, and its cooperative relationship is expected to be further strengthened, with the Korea-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement concluded last year.

Indonesia lacks basic medical equipment such as diagnostic kits and protective clothing due to the rapid spread of COVID-19. As a result, KT&G secured diagnostic kits in Korea last month and KT&G's local subsidiary delivered the goods directly to the Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) on May 5.

KT&G's support is internationally recognized Korean COVID-19 diagnostic kits that can diagnose 6,300 infections. It will be immediately supplied to Indonesia's front line of medical sites and used to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

"We decided to provide emergency relief supplies to help Indonesia overcome difficulties," said Kim Kyung-dong, head of KT&G's social contribution office. "We hope it will help the Indonesian people who have been in friendly relations with Korea for a long time."

Meanwhile, KT&G provided 100 million won in relief funds when earthquake damage occurred in Indonesia in 2018. It has been steadily carrying out social contribution activities to improve local education and living conditions.
