Mando, Socar sign MOU for car sharing connected car soundness diagnosis system

Mando and car-sharing service company Socar will use IoT sensors to develop systems that can diagnose and predict the soundness of car-sharing vehicles.

Mando and Socar signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the Global R&D Center in Pangyo, Mando, on May 14 to "develop an IoT sensor-based car sharing connected car soundness diagnosis system."

Park Kyu-sik, managing director of Mando WG Campus F3 Lab, and Won Jong-pil, chief technology officer of Socar, attended the signing ceremony. The soundness diagnosis system is a device that diagnoses the status of major components directly connected to vehicle driving safety in real time.

Under the agreement, the two companies will begin developing brake diagnosis systems for vehicles. Brake is a very important function that is directly related to driver safety and accounts for a large portion of vehicle maintenance costs.

Currently, Socar sets the timing of replacement of the brakes according to the mileage of the car-sharing vehicle, and checks the condition of the brakes regularly (once a week).

Within this month, Mando will install a brake diagnosis system on some car-sharing vehicles of Socar. A diagnostic system based on the loT sensor can diagnose and predict any abnormalities in brake functions, and Socar will be able to more accurately identify when to replace related parts such as brake pads.

Socar plans to install telematics equipment on vehicles to store information obtained through sensors in databases and share it with Mando.

Park of Mando said, "Through this cooperation, we will analyze big data with various brake operating conditions collected from car-sharing vehicles through AI technology and reflect it in the part and system optimization design."

Meanwhile, Won of Socar said, "We will redefine vehicle inspection methods and component replacement cycles according to car-sharing characteristics used by an unspecified number of people and help improve quality and enhance user safety."
