Bukwang Pharmaceutical said on June 8 that it has exported the sedative Midazolam to Luxembourg, France, for the treatment of COVID-19.
With the continued spread of COVID-19 worldwide, the demand for anesthesia and sedatives for pain relief in patient treatment is also increasing worldwide.
In April, Bukwang Pharmaceutical exported Midazolam injections as emergency medicines at the request of the representative office of Luxembourg in South Korea.
On June 6, at the request of the French Ministry of Health, about 200,000 ampoules of Midazolam injections were exported as emergency medicines.
In addition, Bukwang Pharmaceutical is discussing with the U.K. and Chilean governments on the supply of Midazolam injections.
An official from Bukwang Pharmaceutical said, "We will supply the drug as soon as possible to help the treatment of COVID-19 as the spread of the pandemic is deepening the shortage of medicines and a number of countries continue to request exports of the emergency drug Midazolam."
Midazolam injection exported as an emergency medicine by Bukwang Pharmaceutical is a hypnotic sedative of benzodiazepine series. It has been used to induce sleep or mask conditions and to alleviate anxiety. It also is known to be used to calm coronavirus-related ventilation patients, company officials explained.
