Hyundai Auto accomplished the splendid feat of being awarded a contract from the UN (United Nations). The UN Procurement Division noticed publically the successful tender for medium sized buses from Hyundai.

Hyundai is going to supply the bus to the UN for the next five years. A total of 420 buses will be used by PKF (UN the peacekeeping forces) in 17 nations. Soon, Hyundai will sign the supply contract with the UN and embark on full-scale delivery through the test delivery by the UN.

The cooperation with KOTRA was the key for this success of Hyundai. Last year in May, KOTRA obtained the bid information after they established the UN procurement market support center in New York. And KOTRA provided the information to Hyundai.

Hyundai's successful delivery means more than the amount of delivery. It is their first time to supply the domestic cars under its own brand name. As a result, whenever UN peacekeeping activities come out via world media, CNN and BBC, etc, the logo of Hyundai will be introduced to the world. No doubt that it will reap a massive publicity effect.

In addition, Hyundai's advance broke the monopoly of Japanese automaker in the UN Procurement market. Virtually, the entire UN procurement market has been monopolized by them.

At the moment, Korea only accounts for 0.24 percent, of the market in the UN procurement market, but KOTRA plans to expand its scale to USD 3 hundred million by 2013 through various types of support such as expanding the registration for vendors/ bids, international orders and local contacts.

KOTRA is supporting about 400 domestic companies for advancing in the UN procurement market and U.S. government procurement market.
