Sung-Min Park, an animated man of animation represents the GIMC (the Gangwon Information and Multimedia Corporation). The GIMC was established by Chuncheon city government to act as agents for Gangwon Do (province, it is pronounced Doe, like a Deer). The corporation is an agent for animation and cultural content.
The organisation was established to promote the industry in the Gangwon Do area. As a side effect, the industry also promotes the Chunceon area.
GIMC works with industry in the area by first catching an idea, then focusing it and then funding the idea. Interestingly, most of the funds are coming from offshore. Mr. Park's observation was echoed again by Richard Latter, Advertising Director of Licensing World in the United Kingdom whom said that this was the model for a lot of the recent 'survivors' in the industry.
Mr. Park told of a few forthcoming releases for which Korea IT Times is pleased to be able to help you to look out for.
Hansol Merchandise will be releasing the pictured animation, about sibling cats, in Autumn in North America and Europe. KBS are also thinking of hosting the animation.
A 3D animation named Piddly Pom (Pom, as in a heart 'pumps') which was made in conjunction with Caroon, a Chinese animation company, is destined for multiple countries.
All of the animations are on display and are up for purchasing discussion, among many, many more, at the Coex for SICAF 2010, the Seoul Character and Licensing Fair.
