GM Korea’s city car New Spark shows signs that it may become a smash-hit model in the Korean car market.
According to GM Korea on July 17, the pre-order sales of the New Spark, which was launched on July 1, reached 3,300 units in just 11 sales days.
If this trend continues, GM Korea is projected the monthly pre-order sales volume to pass 7,000. This figure is similar to the monthly sales of Kia Motors’ Morning which is the best-selling city car in Korea.
A GM Korea official said, “Although the New Spark is not displayed at dealer showrooms yet, we are surprised by many visits and inquiries from our customers.”
Among New Spark models, the Spark Eco, in particular, is gaining strong attention. The Spark Eco accounts for about 15 percent of the New Spark pre-order sales. It has a compound fuel efficiency of 15.7 kilometers per liter, higher than the regular model’s 14.8 kilometers per liter.
Backed by the popularity of the New Spark, GM Korea expects to be able to regain the top spot in Korea’s city car market.
