Prosecutors investigating Samsung BioLogics' alleged accounting fraud raided Samsung Electronics' business support task force (TF) office on May 16 to grasp the upper line of the latest evidence destruction.
Also among the targets of the raid were Chung Hyun-ho, president of Samsung Electronics' business support TF, a close aide to Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong.
The TF is a follow-up to the group's Future Strategy Office, which was officially disbanded in February 2017.
Executives of Samsung Electronics, who were arrested on charges of destroying evidence and other charges, reportedly stated in a recent prosecution investigation that there was an order from the "upper line."
The prosecution, which launched the investigation last November after receiving a complaint from the Financial Services Commission over Samsung's alleged accounting fraud, has been conducting the probe after finding out the circumstances of Samsung's systematic destruction of evidence ahead of the prosecution's recent investigation.
Some observers say that the investigation into Chung is a preview to investigate Lee in person.
