KEB Hana Bank said on June 20 that it signed a business agreement with Shinsegae I&C. Under the contract, SSG Pay has decided to officially participate in Hana Financial Group's global payment network platform, the Global Loyalty Network (GLN).
Hana Financial Group GLN is a cross-border Global Payment Hub platform that involves a total of 57 companies from 14 countries around the world. It provides blockchain-based e-payment services to connect financial institutions, distribution companies and point businesses around the world to a single network, allowing them to freely handle remittances, payments and ATM withdrawals via mobile without border restrictions.
GLN service can be used through Hana Members app, Hana Financial Group's integrated membership service, or its affiliate's own app without installing or subscribing to a separate GLN app.
In particular, the real-time exchange rate for each country is automatically applied, allowing convenient prepayment and debit payments not only in Korea but also abroad.
"With this partnership, we can once again strengthen KEB Hana Bank's position in the ever-growing global e-payment service market and provide convenient and diverse services to SSG Pay customers," said Han Joon-sung, vice president of KEB Hana Bank's Future Financial Group.
Meanwhile, Hana Financial Group introduced its first GLN-based payment service in Taiwan in April, making local barcode payment services available through its smartphone "Hana Members" app at Taiwan's largest duty-free store Everrich, traditional night market and vending machines.
In May, about 3 million stores, including Thai shopping malls, tourist attractions and night markets, were also able to make payments through Hana Members.
It is also pushing to expand GLN-based services to Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam and Indonesia within the year and strengthen services for money transfers and withdrawals as well as local payments.
